Shikisai-no-oka Flower Gardens

Sometimes ‘for the gram’ isn’t so bad. The flower parks that have been meticulously planted and cultivated in otherwise remote parts of Hokkaido don’t have to exist. They are a different type of tourist destination - not one of culture, or history, or of the Earth’s own making. Human hands arranged these fields, and the result is still absolutely gorgeous.

Initially, the Panoramic Flower Gardens of Shikisai-no-oka weren’t even on the itinerary for the trip. Would the fields even be in bloom in the middle of August? Fortunately, stopping for a look was so easy, there was no reason not to do it.

It’s easy to joke about people with selfie sticks and the need to find that perfect backdrop for the influencer’s ideal lifestyle image. In reality, people from all walks of life were out enjoying these fields. The farm had tour wagons, or even rental golf carts (well worth the price!) to navigate the acres without damaging one’s legs. It was a lot of fun, and a sight that changes throughout the year as some species come into season while others fade.
