Seoul’s Starfield Library

As you may be able to tell from the content here, I’m a big fan of seeing form and function coming together. Reading is fundamental, and having books displayed as the centerpiece of their own artistic space was inspiring in many ways. Mix in a touch of holiday spirit, and you’ve got a recipe that will bring in the masses.

Is it a functional library? Not really. The whole place is a lot smaller in reality than what you may see in the guidebooks. An atrium with an overlooking floor that wraps around the middle of the stacks, and the corners are taken up by few coffee and sweets shops. If you see a book you like, well, you might have trouble getting it down without a bit of help. In short, don’t come here trying to be a detective solving the next case by researching all night long. Enjoy it for what it is, a spectacle in the middle of a shopping mall that is very photogenic.
