Daikoku Futo’s Car Scene
In our ever connected world, things which were once underground have been pulled up to the surface. Car culture in Japan is taking on this feeling. More and more events that used to feel exclusive are becoming tourist attractions. Daikoku Futo, as the premier parking lot just outside of Tokyo, has always been a place for locals to hang out in between night cruises. Now it’s something of a spectacle.
Sure you’ll find some awesome rides day or night here, from classics to the latest tuned supercar. If you need a one-stop viewing extravaganza during a visit to Japan, or just have some time to kill on a weekend, it certainly checks the box. Yet, something is missing from the atmosphere - the quiet sense of belonging has faded.
It’s a stark lesson for events in general to keep in mind. Trying to be cool, isn’t cool. Don’t force the party to be electric. Let it get there (or not) of its own merits. For now, enjoy the gallery below.
